Meet Leonard Gallagher: a mid-30s former high school teacher who taught history and music, and who is now paralysed from the waist down as a result of a horrific motorcycle accident.

Before the accident, Leonard was a happy-go-lucky man who loved to teach, was dedicated to his job and played gigs at pubs in a band on the weekends to earn some extra cash. He had friends, a girlfriend and an active social life.

Now he's an empty shell of himself: his girlfriend left him a little over six months after the crash, unable to handle how much he'd changed. He's pushed all of his friends away. He hasn't touched his instruments since the accident. He's become extremely cynical about life and has a rather morbid worldview — stark contrast to the almost naive worldview he held before he was crippled — and has become a recluse with an unhealthy fixation on conspiracy theories.

After being released from hospital and after close to a year of rehabilitation, he was given his old job back. He turned it down. Everyone said he was crazy and that he was making life worse for himself. A few told him that maybe he's suffering from depression, maybe even PTSD. He hasn't spoken to those people since.

Confined to a wheelchair and a catheter bag, he spends most of his time on the internet, reading and posting about conspiracies on conspiracy theory websites. It's become what some might call a disturbing obsession. For him, it's become one of the only things that keeps him connected with any kind of reality — even if that reality isn't what people would call normal. When nightmares about the crash startle him from sleep or when intrusive memories start edging into his mind, he shuts himself into his little world.

9/11? He has theories about that. Reptilian Agenda? He has theories about that as well. How the pyramids were built? He has theories about that, too. JFK, the Apollo moon landing, New World Order, Monarch mind-control programming, MKULTRA, MKOFTEN, COINTELPRO, Walt Disney, Operation Northwoods, Operation Mockingbird, Sandy Hook, FEMA, DTV transition, the Montauk Project, chemtrails, the 27 Club, HAARP, pharmaceutical companies, the Bilderberg Group, predictive programming, water fluoridation, extraterrestrials, the Monsanto agenda, the military-industrial complex — he has theories about it all.

He lives in a cramped apartment in Brooklyn, New York City, with his ginger tabby cat, Tesla.
